Print Area

The user can define the view extents and the Print Area on a page with the File | Print Area function.

The Print Area dialog contains four tabs, and allows the user to specify the conditions of the Scale, view Extents, page Margins and Settings.

Scale

The Scale to Fit toggle can be de-activated and the user can specify a scale in the text box.

Extents

Drawing:  Prints the entire contents of the design file on the page - the drawing extents.

View:  Prints the current design window view only.

User-defined:  The user can focus the print area on a specific portion of the design - the size and location of this area is user-defined by either entering rectangular co-ordinates in the text-boxes, or by Picking a rectangular area in the design window with the cursor.

If the Scale to Fit option is toggled ON, each of these Extents options will be printed to fit the size of the page.

Margins

Top, Bottom, Left and Right page margins can be reduced or increased as necessary to accommodate a view within the page size.

The arrow buttons can be used to modify the size of each margin, or the cursor can be placed in the associated text box and the required distance entered from the keyboard.  Note:  The Units of the measurement are displayed in the top right-hand corner of the dialog.

Settings

To Print using windows API (windows application programming interface) is the default call on layouts.  To change this setting (i.e. send view to printer as a bitmap) the toggle on this Settings tab can be deselected.

It is recommended that this default setting ('Print using Windows API if possible' toggle ON) remain unchanged where possible.  Printing using the API drastically improves the speed of printing, however some printers do not support this method of printing.  If printing problems are experienced, first try toggling this option, and always ensure that the latest version of your printer's hardware driver is installed on your computer.
